Monday, 17th July, 8pm : John Minihan
Photography and the lives of Irish Writers, slideshow and talk. John Minihan grew up in Athy, Co. Kildare, and was a photo-journalist with the London Evening Standard for thirty years. Shadows from the Pale, a book of his photographs of Athy, was published in 1996, followed by An Unweaving of Rainbows, photographs of Irish writers. His acclaimed photographs of Samuel Beckett were first published in book from in 1995.
Tuesday, 18th July, 6.30pm: Trevor Joyce
The poet, Trevor Joyce, was born in Dublin in 1947. He has published three collections of poetry. He was a co-founder of the New Writers? Press and is founder and Director of Soundeye: The Cork International Poetry Festival. He is a member of Aosdána. He lives in Cork.

Wednesday 19th July, 6.30pm: Dermot Healy
Dermot Healy is one of the leading writers of his generation, and is a member of Aosdána. He was born in 1947, grew up in Co. Cavan, and lives in Co. Sligo, where he founded the magazine Force Ten. He has published three novels, Fighting with Shadows, A Goat's Song (Encore Award, best second novel), Sudden Times, a memoir The Bend for Home, and three collections of poetry, The Ballyconnell Colours, What the Hammer and The Reed Bed. He has also written plays and film scripts and worked in theatre as actor and director. |

Thursday 20th July, 6.30pm: Adam Thorpe
Adam Thorpe was born in Paris in 1956, and grew up in India, Cameroon and England. His first collection of poetry was short-listed for the Whitbread Award in 1988, while his first novel Ulverton (1992), a panoramic view of 350 years of English rural life, is widely regarded as a contemporary classic. His seventh novel, The Rules of Perspective (2005) is set at the end of the Second World War in a German museum. He will be reading from his collection of short stories Is This The Way You Said? which has been short-listed for this year's Frank O'Connor Award.

Friday 21st July, 6.30pm: Richard Zimler
Richard Zimler was born in New York and currently lives in Porto, Portugal, where he is Professor of Journalism. He has published six books since 1996, including three critically acclaimed historical novels that have become bestsellers in many different countries: The Last Kabbalist of Lisbon, Hunting Midnight, and Guardian of the Dawn. His most recent novel is The Search for Sana, a contemporary story set partly in Palestine. He reviews books for the San Francisco Chronicle and The Los Angeles Times.

| An illustrated talk by Frank Nugent, author Seek the Frozen Lands. Irish Polar Explorers 1740 – 1922. Frank Nugent is a mountaineer, explorer and expedition leader. He has climbed Everest and followed the footsteps of Shackleton across South Georgia. He was Chairman of Mountaineering Council of Ireland 1997-2000. |
