Art workshops with Amelia and Odette Norman
Venue : Kinsale Pottery and Art School
When : Monday 17th – Friday 21st July, 10am-12 noon; €10 per child per day
These classes aim to give children aged 5-14 experience of working with clay, plus painting, drawing and a range of craft skills.  In these classes, students will be guided through projects such as sculpting, coiling pottery, painting, collage, mask-making, glass painting and tie-dying. To book a place ring 021 4777758.

Children’s Busking Competition

Register at Friar’s Lodge between 10- 4.00pm, from Monday 17th July until Friday 21st July. Children from Kinsale and the district’s schools will be performing around Kinsale as part of this busking competition.

A full length, original children’s puppet show, composed and made in Cork.  This tale of Mick an Chnoic deals with an important current issue for our children in a fun and gentle manner, encouraging fairness and independent thinking.

Puppet-making workshop with Mark Dolliver

Two hours of fun for children of all ages and sizes!  Come and learn the art of making those puppets.

Funky Feet Dance and Drama workshops with Mary Farelly

Funky Feet performance: Friday 21st July 2.30pm, Amphitheatre.
Funky Feet presents an exciting programme of dance, drama and percussion workshops as part of the Kinsale Arts Festival 2006. Over 5 days the children will participate in a variety of workshops combining Hip Hop/ Modern and Jazz Dance, Musical Theatre, Drama - technique and improvisation, Brazilian Samba/ Afro and Cuban Percussion. The daily workshops with 60 children - comprising of 2 groups of 30 ( 5 - 8yrs) and 30 (8yrs+) will conclude with a performance for family and friends on the final afternoon.

Launch of Children’s writing anthology
Venue : Kinsale Community School Main Hall
When : Tuesday 18th July, 3.30pm; free
Under the auspices of Cork County Libraries, 75 primary school children from three schools in Kinsale have been working together with professional children’s writer, Bernadette Leach, to prepare an anthology of short stories and poetry, which is illustrated by their friends.  This book, edited and presented by Colin and Jacqui Hawkins, is to be launched with readings from the children, and will be available for purchase (price €10) at the launch.  The Hawkins and the writers will be available to sign copies of the book.

Rags to Riches
Venue : Kinsale Further Education College, Bandon Road
When : Tuesday 18th July, 2-4pm; €2 per child
KAW and Kinsale Environment Watch have collaborated to devise a workshop for children that will stretch, tickle and fire their imagination. Local artists Natalie Allen and Rosita Kingston will lead the workshop using only recycleable materials, and maybe a spot of paint and a dab of glue.  Be prepared to take home a recycled Masterpiece.

Ages 5-10. 

Improvised storytelling for children
Venue : Kinsale Further Education College, Bandon Road
When : Wednesday 19th July, 3-4pm; €2 per child
Storytelling with a twist.  Ben Dillon and Kathy Roettger are inviting children to dress up in their favourite costume, from superheroes to fairies and bring along a toy, or teddy etc.  Their chosen items will be skilfully woven into a story.

Ages 4-6. 

Music Makers with Caroline Molone
Venue : Kinsale Further Education College, Bandon Road
When : Thursday 20th and Friday 21st July, Baby & toddler €10/child (€17 two
siblings)

Caroline will be running her ever popular music workshops for children.

Baby and toddler: 11am (6 months-3yrs): Nursery songs, Finger Puppets,
Teddies, Musical Instruments and movement in a relaxed,informal environment
for child and carer to enjoy.

Thursday 20th Classes 1 & 2 €12/child

Class 1: 2pm (4 - 6 yrs) : Action songs, musical games, percussion
instruments and xylophones, dressing up clothes. Bubbles and dancing.


Class 2: 3pm (7 - 10 yrs ) : Drums, boomwhackers and rhythm, musical games,
percussion instruments, lots of action and movement. Fun all the way !


Art Treasure Hunt
Venue : Kinsale Town
When : Saturday 22nd July, 12-4pm; €2 per child
Come along and join in the Hunt for 'arty' clues around town. Pick up a map and clue sheet from the KAW Box Office and using a little detective work scout your way to the treasure. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 6-10.
